Development Officer – Multiple Locations

Role: Development Officer – Multiple Locations
Location: Four positions available:

  • Development Officer, Durham
  • Development Officer, Central Region (supporting communities of Midland, Orillia, and Muskoka)

POSITION SUMMARY 

We are building a new province-wide Philanthropy team to help grow donor engagement and execute our plan for fundraising revenue growth over the next five years. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, we are seeking four new Development Officers who will be responsible for generating critical donor revenue for the Ontario SPCA’s community-based strategic funding initiatives.

Two Development Officer roles will be dedicated to building donor relationships in each of our animal centre communities of Sudbury, and Durham and two additional roles will support our Eastern Ontario (Napanee, Brockville, Cornwall, and Renfrew) and Central Ontario (Midland, Orillia, and Muskoka) animal centre communities.

We are seeking highly motivated, results-driven relationship based-fundraisers to join our team in the new role of Development Officer. This role will have a phenomenal impact supporting pets and people in Ontario by raising philanthropic support for the highest priority animal care and program needs.

Status: Full-time, Permanent.

How Your Role Contributes to our Team:

Donor Relationship Management (80%)

  • Act as primary lead to develop and implement local individualized strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of individuals, businesses and foundation donors that will increase engagement and revenue.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage a portfolio of approximately 100 active local prospects and donors with a capacity to give one-time and multi-year gifts +.
  • Conduct research as required and continually populate donor pipeline with local businesses, foundations, and individuals.
  • Personally conduct cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities to meet revenue and donor-facing activity targets.
  • Customize donor-facing communication materials – presentations, gift proposals, gift agreements and recognition and stewardship plans to support local cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • As a community matter expert on local philanthropy and fundraising best practice, work collaboratively with colleagues to identify and execute opportunities to engage local prospects and donors in all aspects of our fundraising initiatives and mission.

Administration/Operations (20%)

  • Utilize Raiser’s Edge to document and track donor activities and support KPI tracking and reporting according to organizational practices.
  • Support the creation and implementation of annual community fundraising operational plans, revenue targets and budgets.

Do You Have What it Takes?

  • 5+ years relevant experience with personally securing donations from individuals, foundations, and businesses.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, and a demonstrated ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally.
  • Experience managing and activating a portfolio of donors, including developing a pipeline, prospect research, moving prospects through a journey from identification and qualification to solicitation and stewardship.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new and steward donor relationships with prospects, donors, and volunteers.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities on tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional presentation, communication and writing skills.
  • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge.
  • A university/college degree and additional training in fundraising or not for profit management is a strong asset.

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Business Analyst (financial) role will focus on financial reporting, analysis, and risk identification. This role will use analytical fact finding to support organizational budgeting and forecasting and identify financial risks and opportunities for the organization.  The Business Analyst recognizes the key performance indicators (KPI’s) necessary to make financially sound business decisions and presents them to the CFO for further examination.

A Typical Day:

Business Analysis

  • Identify and research variances to forecast, budget and prior- year expenses and proactively identify opportunities for improvement. 
  • Provide FP&A support to Finance and management in areas of productivity, reporting and metrics in a timely manner.  
  • Seeks to understand data structures across the organization and work with users to interpret reports. 
  • Extraction and manipulation of data pulled from various databases to produce meaningful reports. 
  • Understand and explain internal and external drivers impacting performance and trends. 
  • Collaborate with business partners in Finance and Operations to execute against plans. 
  • Partner with stakeholders to analyze and bring forward new business requests. 
  • Participate in all initiatives or process improvements within finance and IT departments. 

Project Work

  • Design, operate and maintain a KPI Dashboard for operations and Finance in order to support operational improvements, provide insight to improving financial efficiencies and drive growth. 
  • Prepare and maintain financial models to support both short and long-term strategic plans with support of CFO. 
  • Special Projects and ad hoc reporting as assigned by CFO and Controller.

Role: IT Support Specialist – Stouffville/Partial Remote
Location: Based out of our Provincial Office in Stouffville with partial remote opportunity available. This role must be onsite a minimum of 3 days per week. 

POSITION SUMMARY 

Reporting to the Director of IT, the IT Support Specialist is responsible for providing first-level technical support to all employees, ensuring smooth operations and efficient utilization of IT resources. The role requires expertise in managing Active Directory, SharePoint, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Exchange, Windows Servers, Windows Workstations, Printers, Network Infrastructure, Internet Connectivity, Wireless Access Network, Telephone System, SaaS Systems, and other relevant technologies.

Status: Full-time, Permanent.

A Typical Day:

IT Customer Service

  • Provide technical support and assistance to all employees regarding IT-related issues, including hardware, software, networking, and mobile devices. 
  • Track and monitor IT support tickets; triage, assign and follow up promptly. 
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems for end users at approximately 14 animal centres and provincial office. 

IT Support

  • Work with our IT provider to ensure requests are routed to the proper resource and escalate issues requiring senior engineer support. 
  • Communicate with staff about incident progress, notification of impending changes, or agreed outages. 
  • Provide support related to Microsoft Office 365 and Windows operating systems. 
  • Support the network: WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, and security. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to network connectivity, VPN, email. 
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance on servers, desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, cellphones, Macs, and other hardware. 
  • Coordinate new and departing users to ensure requests are completed promptly. 
  • Maintain provincial office telephone and security system.  
  • Maintain IT asset inventory logs for PC’s, printers and other hardware.  
  • Assist with IT system audits. 
  • Provide after-hours and on-call support, as needed, for critical incidents and maintenance activities. 

Additional Functions 

Including but not limited to:

  • Manage and maintain Active Directory services, including user and group administration, security policies, and access controls. 
  • Administer SharePoint environment, including site creation, content management, permissions, and workflow configurations. 
  • Implement and manage Microsoft Intune for device management, including device enrollment, compliance policies, and application deployment. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and support IT projects, upgrades, and migrations. 
  • Conduct regular system audits to ensure compliance with security policies and industry regulations. 
  • Conduct employee training on a variety of applications, security measures and basic computer set up.  
  • Delivery and collection of new and departing employee hardware. 
  • Develop and maintain documentation, knowledge base articles, and training materials for IT procedures and best practices. 
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions and improvements.

  • Bachelor’s degree or College diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT support roles, focusing on systems administration and technical troubleshooting.  
  • Proven expertise in managing Active Directory, including user/group management, GPOs, and AD replication. 
  • Hands-on experience with SharePoint administration, including site configuration, content management, and permissions. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Intune for device management and mobile application deployment. 
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security principles. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Relevant certifications such as MCSA: Windows Server, MCSE: Productivity, or CompTIA Network+

As an adoption services expert for the centre this role also ensures a seamless adoption experience for our clients and animals each and every time.

  • Greeting visitors and seeking client information to support/understand customer needs 
  • Advising the public in a variety of ways including general inquires, adoption counselling, retention counselling, relinquishment counselling and general animal care questions 
  • Assisting the public with adoptions and adoption inquiries and acting as a resource for centre visitors seeking information on the adoption program 
  • Ensuring adoptive family is adequately informed of the needs of the animal, including follow-up care behavioural queries and/or rehabilitation requirements. 
  • Supporting the foster program by providing supplies and setting up appointments with foster parents. 
  • Participating in animal care duties including general cleaning, enrichment and behavioural care

We are seeking an RVT with a passion for shelter medicine to assist in shelter animal care. This position, both challenging and rewarding, is suitable for those who love to work in a fast-paced and structured environment.

A Typical Day

  • Welcome clients and their pets  
  • Providing exceptional care for our animals during their stay 
  • Assisting veterinarian with animals before, during, and following surgery as well as assisting them with wellness procedures 
  •  Preparing surgical equipment, administering, and monitoring anaesthetics and post-surgery clean up 
  • Handling, restraining, and caring for animals undergoing treatment and surgery using low stress and fear free techniques 
  • Monitoring the recovery of animals’ post-surgery 
  • Preparing and administering medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian 
  • General administrative duties including booking appointments  
  • General house-keeping duties and sterilizing of hospital/medical equipment

We are seeking a Customer Care Representative to provide superb customer service to the public, including donors and volunteers, and ensure compliance with the Centre’s policies and procedures. This role handles the day-to-day customer care interactions for the centre including telephone reception, emails, social media, volunteer coordination and more. As an adoption services expert for the centre this role also ensures a seamless adoption experience for our clients and animals each and every time.

A Typical Day

  • Greeting visitors and seeking client information to support/understand customer needs
  • Advising the public in a variety of ways including general inquires, adoption counselling, retention counselling, relinquishment counselling and general animal care questions
  • Assisting the public with adoptions and adoption inquiries and acting as a resource for centre visitors seeking information on the adoption program
  • Ensuring adoptive family is adequately informed of the needs of the animal, including follow-up care behavioural queries and/or rehabilitation requirements.
  • Supporting the foster program by providing supplies and setting up appointments with foster parents.
  • Participating in animal care duties including general cleaning, enrichment and behavioural care
  • Performing general clerical duties and record keeping

POSITION SUMMARY 

We are seeking a resilient and organized individual with exceptional communication skills to join our team in the role of Centre Manager at our Muskoka Animal Centre location. The Centre Manager is accountable for the overall operations of the designated Animal Centre including communications with the provincial office, short-term and long-term planning, budgeting, animal care, staffing, volunteer management, purchasing and other centre activities.

Status: Full-time – Permanent

A Typical Day

  • Develop and monitor the Centre operational budget, including operating expenses, revenue and capital expenditures 
  • Ensure the health and behavioural needs of all animals in care of the centre are monitored daily 
  • Ensure all animal care, infectious disease and facility cleaning protocols and policies are followed 
  • Administrative duties including supply orders 
  • Recruiting, orientating, scheduling, training, motivating and supervising staff to gain cooperation in meeting the goals and objectives of the Ontario SPCA 
  • Keep detailed records on staff training and provide regular performance evaluations 
  • Oversee the centre volunteer program including recruitment, training, supervision and recognition

A Typical Day

  • Develop and monitor the Centre and PATH operational budget, including operating expenses, revenue and capital expenditures  
  • Acts as liaison between Provincial Animal Welfare Services and Animal Rescue organizations  
  • Manage municipal relationships and contracts.  Submit reports to municipalities where required through contracts  
  • Responsible for cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with outside organizations ( ie Animal Welfare, Pounds and rescues)  
  • Ensure the health and behavioural needs of all animals in care of the Animal Centre and PATH are monitored daily 
  • Ensure all animal care, infectious disease and facility cleaning protocols and policies are followed 
  • Manage all animal records in the Shelter Buddy system 
  • Recruiting, orientating, scheduling, training, motivating and supervising staff to gain cooperation in meeting the goals and objectives of the Ontario SPCA 
  • Coordinate with Community Outreach Services and Development department to  community outreach programs by promoting the Centre within the community through promotional activities, fundraising events, circulating literature and developing and maintaining media relations

Community Outreach and Programs

  • Facilitate partnerships with community-based organizations, social service agencies, municipal government and community organizations and advocate for the integration of pet-related services within existing delivery systems. Strong focus on cultivating partnerships with the goal of identifying areas of need within the community.
  • Ensures the success of the Humane Education program by supporting the volunteer teaching team, promoting the humane education program in the community, and facilitating the effective delivery of the Humane Education program.
  • Forge relationships with community members to expand knowledge of Ontario SPCA programs and services.
  • Deliver training and presentations to community-based organizations, government agencies and first responders on animal welfare topics and the inclusion of animals in human services.

Role: RVT – Sudbury Mobile Wellness
Location: Sudbury, ON – This role works onsite at the mobile wellness clinic

POSITION SUMMARY 

Registered Veterinary Technicians are responsible for assisting the staff veterinarians with all aspects of surgical procedures and treatment as well as assisting with general mobile wellness operations. RVT’s provide a combination of medical and behavioural treatments for the animals within our care. RVT’s are also responsible for the general cleanliness/disinfection of the mobile unit.

  • 2 Part time OR 1 Full time – Permanent

A Typical Day

  • Supports the reception team in greeting clients and booking of appointments
  • Obtains consent and provides discharge information to owners as needed
  • Primary point of contact for clients seeking information related to medical care for their animal’s post appointment
  • Assist veterinarian with animals before, during, and following surgery and assisting with wellness procedures
  • Preparation of surgical equipment, administering and monitoring anaesthetics, and post-surgery clean up
  • Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery using low stress and fear free techniques
  • Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian
  • Administer treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian and notify veterinarian of any health problems or concerns regarding the animals
  • May be called upon to give emergency resuscitation or perform other lifesaving procedures
  • Maintain, clean, and sterilize hospital/medical equipment
  • Clean disinfect cages, rooms, and surrounding areas
  • General housekeeping and/or disinfection of mobile unit, including cleaning floors and counter tops
  • Provides accurate record keeping and documentation
  • Assist veterinarian with general animal wellness appts
  • Coach and mentor veterinary and veterinary technician students through practical application, as part of our external shelter medicine education programming
